Adaptive Yoga For Your Special Child

Adaptive yoga offers children the freedom to express themselves uniquely and playfully, all while learning to find stillness through movement and breath.

Yoga postures are adapted to meet the needs of each child. Modifications are made to conventional postures to allow children with disabilities or physical limitations to engage safely.

  • Participants learn to become aware of their breathing. Children confined to wheelchairs tend to be shallow breathers. Deep breathing helps increase energy levels.
  • A quiet mind during yoga practice gives the child a sense of calm and wellbeing.
  • Adaptive yoga reduces anxiety and relieves muscle tension.
  • Adaptive yoga promotes better concentration and greater self confidence.
  • Yoga improves flexibility, balance, coordination, stability, and strength.

Yoga teaches children to be present, grateful, & kind to themselves & others.

The instructor draws on the student’s imagination and creativity as they explore movement, breathing, chanting and relaxation.

Poses are adapted for all abilities. Emphasis is placed on cultivating self-awareness, confidence, acceptance, and reducing anxiety.

In adaptive yoga, a variety of props – mats, pillows, chairs, walls, straps, and sandbags – offer additional stability and support to a child with disabilities.

YOGA FOR SPECIAL CHILDREN

As a parent of a child with Cerebral Palsy, Angela is passionate about sharing yoga and mindfulness with children with Special Needs, and their parents and caregivers. Her journey through life with a child with Special Abilities has led Angela to find a new outlook on life.  One that is about slowing down and being present, living with gratitude, and stepping away from judgment and into love.  This shift has allowed Angela to tap into her intuitive gifts and to see all children in their true essence. When Angela isn’t on her mat she loves to spend time with her family, travel, garden, and be in nature.
